Senior Judicial Coordinator, L-5 (Closes 13 July) The Senior Judicial Coordinator will act as Principal Legal Advisor of the Chambers by providing advice, guidance and direction on the most complex and sensitive legal issues within the respective Chambers as well as across the Chambers as a whole to ensure consistency in practices and in the application of law, including in particular issues of International Humanitarian Law, International Criminal Law and comparative law. Assist the Judges in the management and administration of Chambers, business. In this respect assist with staffing issues and work environment, preparing timely and accurate administrative and budgetary reports and submissions, including performance appraisal and management. Propose adoption and follow up implementation of policies and practice directions involving Chambers, monitoring and advising upon the development and efficiency of proceedings.Ensure that all Chambers judges are promptly informed of all pertinent developments at the ECCC, and identify specific expertise and best practices to share across the Chambers, as well as developing ways to share research work so as to avoid duplication, including the development of research tools and/or library systems for the management of information, research and case materials. Team Leader, Close Protection Unit, FS-5 : (Closes 17 July) Manages the Close Protection Unit (CPU), in line with the United Nations Personal Protection Field Operations Manual (PPFOM); Gathers and analyzes information and prepares risk and threat assessments as it pertains to the security and safety of the principal(s); Plans, exercises and reviews courses of action in conjunction with the assessed threat; Coordinates and executes operational procedures and practices in line with established procedures; Identifies, acquires and trains Close Protection Officers (CPO) from within existing resources; Establishes and deploys, tactically trained protection teams to meet the assessed level of threat; Liaises with relevant civil police, military, law enforcement and other officials as necessary; Prepares regular operational reports with relevant analysis and recommendations (more)

Administrative Assistant, FS-3: (Closes 17 July) Receive and screen incoming mail and ensure proper distribution to various offices/persons concerned. Maintain a log of all outgoing correspondence and ensure necessary follow-up. Type correspondence, documents and reports; Draft routine correspondence for the signature of the Deputy Director’s signature; Take and prepare written minutes of meetings. Place and screen telephone calls and answer queries with discretion; receive visitors; Schedule appointments, meetings etc. (more)

Maintain office policy, confidential and general files. Keep Time and Attendance records of the staff in the Office. Coordinate with Personnel on the ECCC/UNAKRT Internship Programme. Senior Coordinator, Interpretation/Translation Pool, L-5: (Closes 31 July) Support the planning, organization and management of the Court’s Interpretation and Translation Pool (ITP); Organize interpretation and translation services in accordance with the Court’s schedule, and other Court activities (such as committee meetings) and assign and manage tasks received from various offices accordingly; Together with Head of the Interpretation and Translation Pool, provide professional supervision of interpreters and translators; Ensure effective overall planning, organization and management of interpretation and translation services and assist the management of overall performance and quality control of language services. Interpreter, French, L-4: (Closes 31 July) Provide interpretation from English into French (main language) at meetings, investigative interviews, trials etc.; Routinely function as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a meeting or trial; Support planning of interpretation resources for court activities; Interact with client units to prepare for hearings and meetings and plan work generally; Conduct translation work when not required as interpreter or during a period without interpretation; Perform other duties as and when required. The UNAKRT Internship Programme offers recent university graduates and postgraduate students an opportunity to work in the unique environment of this hybrid tribunal in Cambodia. Interns will have the opportunity to enhance their practical experience and their theoretical knowledge within one of the following offices of UNAKRT:

  • The Offices of the International Judges of the Pre-Trial Chamber;
  • The Trial Chamber or the Supreme Court Chamber;
  • The Office of the International Co-Prosecutors;
  • The Office of the International Co-Investigating Judges;
  • The Defence Support Section;
  • The Court Management Section;
  • The Public Affairs Section; and
  • The Victims Unit

The following is the 2008 time table for the Standard internships and summer internship. The UNAKRT Internship Committee will only review and consider the applications after the deadlines indicated below. Please note that only short-listed candidates will be contacted and interviewed (phone interview) for the internships.
