Translation Services from Khmer Language into the English Language

1. As part of the Court proceedings, the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials (UNAKRT) is seeking professional translation services from Khmer into the English Language.

2. The period of engagement is expected to be one (1) year with an option of one (1) year extension. The number of pages required is currently estimated to be approximately 6,000 pages annually.

3. Interested vendors will be required to meet the following criteria:

a. Provide high quality professional translations an average of not less than 70 to 90 pages during the first twelve-month period and no less than 30 to 40 pages during the second twelve-month period per working day (Monday through Friday excluding Public Holidays observed by the UN) depending on the operational needs of the judicial organs.

b. All translators shall have a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the same field of work. Academic requirements: Bachelor or Master Degree in the field of Foreign Language, especially in English, or in the field of law or equivalent diploma. For translators into and from the Khmer Language: translation experience in English; fluency in written and spoken Khmer and English.

c. Revisers, staff and/or sub-contractors assigned to the job shall have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in translation and revision or related work. Academic requirements; Bachelor or Master Degree in the field of Foreign Language, especially in English, or in the field of law, or equivalent diploma; for translators into and from the Khmer Language: translation experience in English; fluency in written and spoken Khmer and English Languages.

d. Demonstrated experience in translating complex litigation-related documents (such as motions, witness statement, indictments, judgments, etc.), or legal materials of similar complexity (e.g. contracts, statutes, etc.), historical documents; and

e. Agreed compliance with the strictest obligations of confidentiality.

4. UNAKRT encourages local vendors to bid on this contract(s).
