Background

The United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials (UNAKRT) provides technical
assistance to the
Extraordinary Chambers in
the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC)
, which is a national institution established in accordance
with Cambodian law
. The ECCC has jurisdiction to bring to trial senior leaders of
Democratic Kampuchea and those who were most responsible for the crimes and
serious violations of Cambodian penal law, international humanitarian law and
custom that were committed during the period from 17 April 1975 to 6 January
1979.

In December 2021, the Addendum to the UN-RGC Agreement entered
into force, vesting the ECCC with residual functions which shall commence upon
the completion of judicial activities. As part of its residual mandate, the
ECCC is inter alia required to “disseminate information to the public regarding
the Extraordinary Chambers”.

As part of this mandate, the ECCC intends to engage with
stakeholders, including victims of the Khmer Rouge, to sustainably impart
information and continue meaningfully contributing to Cambodian society.

UNAKRT therefore solicits expressions of interest from individuals
of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to the legal profession,
academia (including researchers and educators), sociology,
psychology and history with an interest in contributing to
various projects.

Applicants with qualifications, experiences and skillsets relevant
to residual phase initiatives may be called upon periodically to assist the
ECCC remotely on a consultancy basis.

Note: previous applicants to EOI/CMS/2021/04 (Contributors to
Handbook on the ECCC) are on file and need not re-apply.

How to apply

Interested applicants are requested to submit a completed and
signed P.11 form in English (available on the
UNAKRT website), together with a
motivation statement detailing their interest, expertise and qualifications, to
unakrt-jobs@un.org.
